Acer Aspire 9410 - (Laptop) - XP:
I bought 2 pcs. of 2 gig. memory (total of 4 gig).
All combinations work: original 1gig, new 2gig, (mixed old & new) 2.5 gig
The only configuration that does not work is the 4 gig one.
The screen goes blank right after the XP logo screen - the logon screen is
already blank.
Pleas note - the computer works - I can log in via Remote Ctrl.
All memory tests are passed when the 4 gig are installed.
In device manager video shows: (Error 12) necessary resources could not
be
allocated...
Why? - when it seems to me that more resources are available when 4 gig
are
installed ?
I did try to re-install XP with a different harddrive in the laptop, with
the 4 gig already installed - but the screen goes blank somwhere during
the
install.
thanks,
Roland
XP won't recognise RAM exceeding 3.25gb.
XP uses the swap and page file - google "XP swap file" for full
explaination.
BIOS dictates what will be recognised, your Laptops MoBo
may not be able to accomadate 4gb of RAM, or you have installed
incompatible RAM modules. Depending where you purchased your
RAM, what measures did you take to ensure it was compatible?
Example being Crucial.com, which performs an online scan and
won't allow you to purchase incompatible modules.
Whatever, even if your Laptop's MoBo can utilize 4gb of RAM
and even if BIOS recognises it, Windows XP will only see and
Use 3.25gb.
Your oblique error message indicates either:
Bad/Faulty RAM module.
Incompatible RAM module (Most likely)
Swap/Page file corruption (doubtful as you would have mega
problems prior to installing additional RAM)
Laptop's MoBo is limited to a max of 2gb - Check BIOS. -
Combination of all of above.
