That's perfectly standard for any file that is not WMV. You haven't lost the ability, you never had it.

I have a ton of videos in varying formats (MPG/AVI/MOV/etc. etc. etc.). For some reason I have lost the ability to seek or fast forward *some* of these videos. So basically if I want to get to the 5 minute mark, it's going to take me 5 minutes to get there. I know for a fact that some of these exact files used to have this ability, so my guess is it's something else. I'm attempting playback with WMP11. Is there a common cause for this?
