Re: Security issues when viewing vids from a remote system

No.

The server in question is all part of the same network, which is to say they are all on the same side of the firewall. I do not use firewalls in individual systems.

Two boxes, System A holding the share, System B wanting to run a video file located on the share. Copy the file local to System B, and it can be played and viewed with no issues. Try and play it on System B by accessing it in its location on System A, and the file plays the sound, but has no video. Same file, same codecs installed, just a difference in the specific spot the file is sitting.

and try and run them directly from my video share, I'll wind up with
the local system acting like it doesn't have the proper video codec
installed. If I copy the file local, then it plays fine - just run it
from the remote share, and no video (audio is fine regardless).

This seems to be some sort of rights issue where Windows will not
allow the codec to be run if the related file is remote. Any way I
can turn this setting off so I can continue to run things off the
central server and not have to copies files down one by one when I
want to watch them?

Could it be an issue with your firewall?

Using ZoneAlarm, I have to go into
Program Control and choose "Allow"
for Windows Media Player.
