movie to disc from movie maker in DV-AVI NTSC and used avsmedia film

to burn a DVD. It works on the TV DVD player, but won't work on the
computer
where I burnt it. it skips and stalls. movie maker didn't have an option
to
save as simple dv-avi. I have two or three different formats to burn to
dvd
and selected the highest quality. My other video is 8gb and I have to burn
to
dual layer a $5 a shot, already wasted one, so won't try that one until I
get
the 4gb movie burnt properly. Yes, I'm a beginner and I do not want to
make
this a profession or hobby... I have been working with PC's since the
early
80's though, so it's not like I'm without computer skills.... Thanks for

There is something amiss here. Authoring/burning software
is configured so as to "know" the file size of a DV-AVI is not
pertinant, as during transcoding it will be a fraction of the
original file size when burned to DVD as mpeg2.
Your 8gb DV-AVI equates to less than 45 mins and/or
less than 2gb as a DVD compliant mpeg.

The DVD standard will only accommadate individual
file sizes upto 2gb, so *ALL* authoring/Burning software
will devide large files into 1.2gb files, there are no
discernable "joins" on playback.

Nero most definately would not reject a DV-AVI.
Your DV camcorders DV-AVI footage captured via firewire
by WMM is most definately compliant with ALL DVD
authoring/burning software.
MS were mainstay in the set up of the DV-AVI standard.
And as you captured via WMM, by default it will be type 1
and therefore WMM most definately has the option to
save as DV-AVI, and the footage will be compatible with
all authoring software.
Try this:
Connect your DV cam via firewire, power up in vcr mode.
You should see onscreen the prompt with options etc.
Select WMM, if not shown as an option, close that window,
GoTo Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/WMM
Under 1) Capture Video is option: "Capture from Video Device"
Click that and a dialog will appear;
1) Your DV cam should be listed, click next button...
2) You now get options to give the captured footage a name
and a folder to save to. Click the Next button
3) The Video setting dialog, this will have 3 options
by default the third option is preselected and that is
the option you want: "DV-AVI (NTSC)
4) Click the Next button, follow the prompts and your
DV footage will be saved to HD as DV-AVI.
5) When capture is complete, close WMM
6) Open Nero, select to make a "DVD-Video"
import the DV-AVI footage and burn.

You are doing something wrong along the line?
