Re: What appears to be .avi won't play in any program

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I can't determine the codec since Gspot says it's "Not a valid file",
and I somehow doubt it's a virus or trojan, of course, it could be, but
my mom runs about 20 scans a day and found something before I
downloaded it, but not since.

Hey-

I just downloaded a file from a torrent. I had been downloading the
.avi files one by one, but now that I've gotten to the third one and
it's finished... it won't play. The file ends in .avi, but when I check
Properties it won't show any details past "Video File". WiMP says it's
unsupported, as do all my numerous other video players (I've had this
kind of trouble in the past, so I have a LOT). I downloaded Gspot and
the program says that it's "not a valid .avi file" even though it
showed up on the list (under "supported media") when I was opening it
with Gspot. I'm pretty sure I have every codec imaginable, and many
that I don't even need.

I'm sorry I can't give more detail, but I haven't got any more to go
on. Any insight? Thanks!

Let's see...BitTorrent...unplayable AVI file...

You either need to determine the codec used (AVI, DIVX, Etc), or more likely
you have downloaded a trojan or a worm masquerading as a video file...very
common on Bittorrent.
