Cari,
This is a continuation of my problem with a DVD drive that I posted in the
thread "Starting movie causes blue screen". I did not buy the drive from
Dell, but from a third party. The third party insists that it's a software
error or a driver error, which corroborates your previous post of a device
driver problem. However, reinstalling the Windows driver doesn't solve the
problem, and a Google search for a Philips CDRW/DVD CDD5263 driver turns up
nothing, neither at the Dell web site or anywhere on the web (at least that
I could find). The third party also had suggested a firmware update, but
that also has turned up nothing on the web.
So I was thinking maybe the driver on my Hard disk has become corrupted, and
a fresh reinstall from CD might do the trick. That's why I asked the
question.
The drive can read CD's and data DVD disks just fine.
Bummer.

XP has drivers included for optical drives..... You can go into the device
manager, right click and uninstall the optical drive and then reboot, XP
will reinstall the driver(s).
What problems are you experiencing with the drive?

How do I reinstall a device driver from my Windows XP CD? I'm having
trouble with a CD/DVD combo drive for a Dell Inspiron 1100, and I suspect
a corrupted driver on my Hard disk.
Thanks for your help,
Owkmann
