Crashing when I enable graphics card

My whole problem is....... I have all these 3D programs that I ran
before this problem occured. I had formatted my PC and when I enabled
my NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 AGP 128MB graphics card and I went to a high
resolution the screen would flicker and blink on and off and after
about 15-20 seconds the whole pc crashes. The only way I could boot
back up was to start up in safe mode and disable the device and reboot.
I've tried updatig drivers and none of that seems to work. I've checked
all the bios settings that I know of and they all seem normal. I'm
wondering if the card itself just went bad. If so, do any of you know
how I can find that out. The other thing that I was thinking was, if
the AGP slot went bad on the motherboard. Since it is the only slot I'm
not sure how to check that without buying a new AGP card and testing
it. I hoping that there is something that I missed and someone has a
suggestion or two.
