Firstly I don't see why you should have to pay him anymore, he did the
upgrade and got paid for it and he should ensure it is working, it may mean
taking the pc and monitor to him, if it's not far that's what I'd do.
Otherwise, when booting, press F8 (generally) or the option to boot in to
safe mode, and choose boot with vga support, or something similar. Hopefully
it may work.
