Of course XP activation is still tracked by MS and is still required
each time you re-install it, either online or by phone if you've
exceeded the number of re-installs that's allowed for online activation.
Nothing has changed in that department.

They may relax the activation requirement for XP sometime in the
future, though I don't see how that's going to work. The programming
code on a retail XP CD forces you to activate it within 30-days of
installation or it will cease to function properly. How are Microsoft
going to be able to change that on existing discs?-- it can't be done.
