And did you disable the associated entries in the Services branch of the
proper Control Set?
I would if i could but xp pro is not up & running
I'm on hd1 win2000 pro sp4
at this time, i can only copy/rename/edit files on hd2 from win2000 sp4 hd1

the pleasure of rebooting
How did you "remove" those drivers, with a PE disk or...?
hd1: winpro 2000 sp4 ok
hd2: xp sp1 ok --> sp2 auto update, not doing so well
boot on hd1, ren ...\drivers on hd2
And did you disable the associated entries in the Services branch of the
