Hi Frank,
I'm installing XP Pro with SP2 on a DQ35JO with raid.
I tried 10 times and the 11th times it did not ask for the floppy but loaded
the drivers. The only different on the elevent time was before I started I
smack the floppy drive into the table (without the floppy). So the old saying
is still right; If everything fail use the hammer.

a little further. I'm using an Intel DP35DP mobo with RAID specified.
I first installed/upgraded/ran Vista Home Premium OK for a week with a
SATA HDD and ODD, and now want to install WinXP Home on another HDD.
The Vista HDD is de-cabled and is not seen. To permit/help this, I'm
now using an IDE ODD and a SATA HDD (80gb) and the WinXP retail base CD
and the SP2 CD and the latest downloaded Intel drivers. The other
devices attached are a USB keyboard, a USB mouse, a LCD monitor DVI'ed
to an eVGA graphics card, and a USB FDD (a supported TEAC/IBM one).
My initial setup process starts with my USB FDD already connected. In
response to the F6 action, the diskette with the RAID/AHCI driver is
asked for, and is inserted and read OK. This diskette is left in the
USB FDD per instructions as the setup process proceeds to select/format
a partition, then starts loading things again including the software
(again) from the diskette without any message about the USB FDD or the
diskette. Do you have some BIOS option set, or other hardware attached,
that might be having the setup process asked for some other driver(s)?
There's nothing in my documentation that suggests you "normally" should
be seeing another message at this stage asking for more special software
drivers.
Then, for me, an auto-restart happens (with a message to first remove
the diskette) and I then see the WinXP screen itself. More software
loading now occurs from the base WinXP CD. In several minutes I see a
"loading drivers" status message and half-way thru this effort I then
see a BSOD (stop 0A IRQL_NOT..... situation). I consistently get this
same BSOD when trying a few things (altho I won't try a non-RAID
situation with an IDE HDD).
Poking around the forums at the very helpful Tom's Hardware (
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/ ) and the Anandtech (
http://forums.anandtech.com/ ) sites plus a few other places has
essentially made me think that, for my situation, a successful install
requires an install WinXP CD with the RAID/AHCI driver slipstreamed in
beforehand (and so I might as well include SP2 in this too).
Most helpfully to build a customized install CD, I have just learned
about the nLite program found at http://www.nliteos.com/index.html .
I'm about ready to try this program, learning as I go.
If this doesn't get WinXP in, I will somewhat unhappily re-cable the
Vista HDD and trudge forward, hoping that its SP1 gets here sooner than
later.

press S to select the driver from the USB Floppy drive. I am able to
selct
the driver and it loads.
I continue and select the Hard drive and after finish formating it ask

the Floppy again. I press enter and nothing happens except a flick. I
have
tried leaving the floppy in from the first load and taking it out and
reinserting it when ask second time, but I can not get past this
point. The
Floppy is a Mitsumi and is listed on Microsofts Web site as one of the
three
floppys that works.
Any one know of this problem?
