Re: Upgrade Error - File Missing - NO VIRUSES or malware

Andrew E :(

Youve run a memory check?
www.memtest.org

Youve removed/disconnected any 'extra' hardware?

Have seen several posts with this exact problem but no solution. At the
beginning of the install (upgrade of 2000 Pro to XP Pro Retail), I get an
error that says a file cannot be copied or is missing. The file is always
a
seemingly random filename with a .sys extension, file is not on CD and
can't
google it. CD is brand new and is good. Computer is clean - no viruses or
malware, etc. I have run up against this in the past and have, after
trying
many different ways, finally gotten it to go but not this time (In fact -
it
has happened on a completely brand new hard drive from a scratch install -
so
it wasn't a virus in that case for sure). Have tried another XP CD to
check
and the same thing happens. I promise - I have no spyware, etc. on the
system and the CD is good (in fact, brand new and I upgraded my home
computer
from 2000 with it to check (then installed Vista that was waiting to be
installed on it- I'm legal guys!! - except I found out that I screwed up
and
couldn't upgrade the XP Pro to Vista Home Premium!)) Enough rambling!
Thanks
in advance - and I would rather not have an answer than to have Andrew E.
reply!
