Have you tried a different floppy drive?

I'm trying to install winxp home on a brand new system. If I use my install
disk (winxp home sp1) and use the F6 prompt to install the drivers for my
SATA HD, my floppy drive eats my floppy disk. It gives me an error stating
the textsetup.oem file causes an error and I can't load the drivers - so the
installation fails with a BSOD popping up before I get to partition the
drive. Additionally, the 3.5 floppy disk becomes useless and I have to
reformat it. I tried about 8 different floppy disks unsuccessfully. I tried
copying the drivers to the floppy on this computer and on a different
computer. The floppy disk is good until the point when the install looks for
the drivers on it.
I tried making a slipstream disk with SP2 and the drivers. That gets me
past the former problem. However, I get some messages about missing files
during installation (ks.sys and some other files) that I can bypass if I
press Esc. After the reboot following the partitioning, my USB keyboard and
USB mouse don't work during the GUI part of the install. Windows boots up
and copies files for 5 minutes, then I must choose the Region and Language
Input, but the mouse cursor doesn't show and the keyboard is dead. I tried
using a ps/2 keyboard and it didn't work either.
