Shenan, thank you for the reply but while I have set up myself as
administrator and user by replacing my son's name with mine I still find
that there are some files and folders in his name ( such as I mentioned). I
cannot see how I can delete his name when he is no longer an administrator
or user.
Do you know how?
Thank you.

My son has given me his laptop with windowsxp installed and I have
successfully installed my own data etc; however I have a problem
with removing his name and some of his data.
I am now logged as the administrator and/or only user but I still
find that there is a file called "C:\Documents and Settings\my
son's name\Local Settings\Application Data\\MigWiz" and also
"C:\Documents and Settings\my son's name\Application
Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer".
I want to change these from my son's name to my name but changing
the administator has not done this. I do not see why there should
be anything in the C drive with my son's name.
There are other files but these will gibe an example.
Can anyone help me clear this up?
If I am in the wrong newsgroup please excuse and maybe redirect me.
Thank you.
Create your own user.
Once you have everything on the new user - it setup looking like you wish
and with all the files you want and such - remove your son's account.
In general - if you get an used machine - it's best to start from sctratch
so *you* know everything that is on there.
