This is the first time that I've attempted to build my own system fromA CRC error means that the source disk is defective.
scratch, so I'm sort of an amateur. I have an Asus K8V-X SE motherboard
with
an AMD Semperon processor. I have done all of troubleshooting strategies
that
I could find listed in the knowledge base to no avail. I invariably end up
reaching the "Installing Windows" part of the installation then it stops
with
a Fatal Error. The set up log says:
Error:
SXS.DLL: Syntax error in manifest or policy
file"D:\I386\asms\52\MSFT\WINDOWS\NET\DXMRTP.MAN" on line 5.
Error:
Installation Failed: D:\I386\asms. Error Message : Data error (cyclic
redundancy check).
Error:
One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be
installed.
Can someone please interpret this for me?
P.S. The knowledgebase remedies that I've tried include: testing my memory
modules, pressing F7 (to add a HAL), updating BIOS, removing all
unnecessary
hardware, checking remaining hardware for XP compatibility, pressing F6
(to
add SCSI/RAID driver, when I've tried booting from the 6 XP SP2 boot
floppies, I get to the 6th disk and before it's finished loading it stops
and
the screen says:
STOP: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error
\SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll
