I dont believe a reinstallation of winxp would help at all.
So this PC was at one time running OK, or is it a new build?
Anything helpfull shown in Event Viewer?

I did not change any hardware, I only changed some bios parameters (PEGLink
Mode, Init Display First)."PCI"
Spontaneous reboots, sometimes graphics driver stuck in infinite loop,
corrupted display.

I have had stability problems and it seems that they were related tographics
card.wrong
With the aid of ATI tech.support I found that some bios settings were
(see details below). Also "Init Display First" parameter was set to
becameinstead of "PCI-E". After making recommended corrections the system
makingeven more unstable. My question is, should I reinstall WinXP after
usingthese changes in bios?
Thanks,
JK

ASUS has recently introduced a new BIOS feature called PEG Link Mode.

bythe
user to increase the engine and memory clocks on the graphics card.
The five user configurable options are:
Auto

By default the feature is set to Auto, which is the same as "Normal".
However, the Normal setting still slightly overclocks the video card

The PEG Link Mode value must be set to "Slow" in order to disable the
overclocking feature, and allow for proper functionality. To set the
Link
Mode to Slow, please refer to the steps below:
Enter System BIOS
Open Advanced menu -> open the Chipset menu
Locate PEG Link Mode
Change setting to Slow
