Hotfix descriptions list the files that are changed and their new
versions.
If I have the listed files, but they are newer than the hotfix versions
(The
version numbers are larger.), am I safe in assuming that I do not need to
apply the hotfix and my files incorporate the hot fix? If this is not the
case, how do I determine which patches I need to reapply?
I can only speak from a Win 98SE perspective, but when security patches for
IE6 were made available, if you read the full spec. for the upgrade, the
upgrade always gave two file version options for the loading, one if a hot
fix has been installed and one if it hasn't. In other words, the update is
intelligent enough to scan the PC to see what is existing, to load the
appropriate files. Once a hot fix has been loaded, the updates should always
load the hotfix version update. You can of course check this by comparing
the file versions from the Security Update or whatever info, with the ones
on the computer to see what has happened.
