Thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it. As I read the message from Windows more closely, I notice it told me to ask my Administrator for the volume license. It occurred to me that my install disk was for a volume location and my license key was for a single user. I guess the install disk for single use has different files.

1st you can only use one license per computer and register xp with it.
Also, the sticker fixed to a pc is not the windows product key # (the # you
must use to register),the product key # is usually afixed to the folder xp came
in,and usually has an orange sticker...Most of the time the sticker on a pc is
from the mfg,and will not have the product key on it,chk with the seller for
the key #.

I own a PC with Windows Media Center. I also own a Dell Laptop which came loaded with Windows2000. I bought a used computer from my company which was originally loaded with WindowsXP Pro but the hard drive was reformatted prior to the sale. The WindowsXP Pro operating system was part of the sale, but the software was not loaded for me.

I wanted to load the WindowsXP license on my laptop in the place of the Windows2000 and use the Desktop I bought for parts only. I have a WindowsXP Pro install disk which I used for the install. When I got to the place in loading the software on my laptop where I was to enter my license number, I entered the number on the Genuine Windows Sticker on the PC and it said "The Product ID you entered is not valid." It is valid and it my legitimate software.

How do I get it to take the number, I have checked very closely and I'm entering it letter -for-letter and number-for-number.
