Thanks for this.

The product is a retail version of XP Pro with SP2 combined onboard the
original CD.

However - I had hoped to find a simple solution to reloading the the OS from
the original media to avoid having to reload a multitude of packages.

But MS seemingly no longer maintain the "re-load or repair option" in any
realistic sense given that re-loads in-situ have a success rate of less than
50%. I am advised from elsewhere that this relates directly to MS's "system
protection" design which is intended to prevent 3rd party and potentially
malicious software from overwriting key system files and thereby hi-jacking
the system.

Naturally if all else fails I'll do a "new" install and reload everything.

However I'm still open to any MS assist on a workable solution.
