Upgrade 2000 Pro to XP Pro

CURRENT SYSTEM:
Dell Inspiron 8000
Windows 2000 Pro
ATTEMPTING TO INSTALL:
Windows XP Pro Upgrade
MY EFFORTS: (1) Boot up computer, (2) Insert new MS Win XP Pro Upgrade disc,
(3) close drive.
RESULT: CD does not run automatically.
MY EFFORT: "Start/Run/d:\setup.exe"
RESULT: "Please insert disc."
MY EFFORT: Went to Win Explorer to look at disc and find file.
RESULT: No cd appears to be in the drive. (I have only one CD drive)
CHECKS:
Three other cd's open and run automatically on this drive. Virgin cd's open
the CD-maker automatically.
MY EFFORTS: Uninstall all firewalls and popup blockers and virus
protections. Disable Norton. Reboot.
RESULT: No change.
MY EFFORT: Purchased another new copy of Win XP Pro Upgrade from a different
vendor. - all the same as above.
RESULT: All the same as above.
