From MS Word 2002 Help:
[[Obtain file format converters
The most commonly used converters are installed with Microsoft Word by
default. If you want to open or save in a format that's not installed by
default, you may need to obtain additional converters.
Note You can open documents created in Microsoft Word 2000, 97, 95, 6.0,
or 2.0 directly in Microsoft Word 2002. All data and formatting created in
these versions of Word are fully supported in Word 2002.
Converters supplied with Word:
WordPerfect 6.x
Converts documents from WordPerfect 6.0 for DOS and WordPerfect 6.0 and 6.1
for Windows.
WordPerfect 5.x
Converts documents to and from WordPerfect 5.0 and 5.1 for DOS and
WordPerfect 5.1 and 5.2 for Windows.

Does anyone know how to convert wordperfect to Word? I have two computers
and one converted a file to word perfect. I loaded the data back on the
first, not knowing what I had done and now my desktop can't read what I
input when the file was on the laptop I have. Help.

Mike & OP,
Trial versions are frequently MORE expensive than discount retail
stores, if you decide to keep/use it beyond the trial period.
My Compaq Presario NB came with a trial version of Office. I didn't want
to deal with the trial version for even one minute . . . I have a
dislike for nagware (pop-ups asking you to subscribe), so I immediately
uninstalled it and then installed my own licensed copy of Office 2003 on
the NB.

There was a time when computer vendors offered cut down Office suites as
part of an installation.. Lotus Smartsuite, actually only AmiPro 3,
Lotus 123w and Lotus Organiser was one of them.. some offered MS Works
or Lotus Works.. some still do, but the practice is seen less these
days.. I understand that MS Office 2003 trial version is to be found on
some OEM computers, but not too many.. people who bought a Win 98
computer way back may well have had bundled software included in the
sale, but that is all that it was.. office programs have never
officially been part of any operating system.. if you want one, you
will have to buy it separately or try one of the free offerings
available on the net.. I have no link for you, but apparently they are
ok as long as you don't expect all of the functionality of a full blown
suite..
