SP2 Installation Problems

Well there you have it. I waited a year to install Service Pack 2, and now
I'm sorry I did. Maybe someone can head me in the right direction.
Downloaded and installed SP2 from the Windows Update Site. After installing
I can not access Windows as User #1. BIOS loads, Windows seems to load
right up to the log in screen. If I select User #1 the system goes to the
Wallpaper screen and no further. No icons appear on the screen. No start
up programs are loaded. Mouse moves, ctrl/alt/del opens the Task Mgr, but
nothing else. Curiously if I log on as User #2 I get full access, entire
system works normally. I would do a System Restore except User #2 doesn't
have admisintrative rights. Any ideas? Thank you in advance.
