Re: How do I do A fresh install of windows on a SATA drive?

Thanks for the reply.

Very early this AM, while surfing the net trying to get some information on
my problem, I came across an old thread on onlineoverclockers.com. The poster
was having a problem with Windows recognizing his SATA drive. Although I was
not having any problem with Windows recognizing my SATA drive, I read the
thread anyway.

In it, someone asked about whether his"SATA support was in Native mode in
his BIOS"? It got me thinking and I checked my BIOS. Finally, about three
pages of enters in on the advance chipset tab I found that my BIOS ws not set
correctly for SATA drives. It was set for PATA IDE drives only. I set it for
combined IDE and SATA use (my DVD writer is not recognized if I set it to
SATA only) and BINGO

all my problems went away. I have now successfully loaded all updates and
installed without any problems.

My only interesting thought now is how did the computer run at all if it was
not set for SATA use, and the only HDD I have is a SATA drive?

Anyway, looks like my problems are fixed. Thanks again for reading.

New computer build- as listed in my signature. I have installed already and
seemed to have no problems. Didnt install any drivers and the install went
without a problem. Recognizes my drive with correct amouont of formatted
space. And my computer works fine when I use it....until I try to update all
of the critical patches from the Windows update page. There are 33 it says I
need. I can install 29 of them without a problem. One of the final four
causes my computer to hang at the desktop when I boot after updating. The
pop-up saying "windows explorer has encouontered a problem and has to close.
Whether I send a report or not, windows closes, and I am left with my desktop
picture and nothing else. I have tried booting in safe mode but I get the
same error pop-up. The only way around it at that point is to do repair
install of the OS, as I cant even get to system restore to set the system
back to before the updates.
I have updated all drivers and the BIOS for my Mobo, and I ahve searched
for SATA drivers on the Albatron website and the Intel website with no luck.
Does anyone know what is going on here or am i stuck using the computer
and never turning on the windows update feature?
Any help is appreciated.

Which update exactly causes the issue?
When you get the "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem...."
error, you need to click on the link to see the details -
What is the AppName?
What is the AppVer?
What is the ModName?
What is the ModVer?
