Let's start at the beginning.

Are you certain that you need to upgrade to XP Pro? Except for
certain specific components and functions the two versions are
identical so unless you have a current or anticipated need for one of
these items there is no need for or value in doing the upgrade.

In particular there is zero difference in performance or stability
between the two versions except in the instance of a computer with to
CPUs on the motherboard, as XP Pro will use both of them whereas XP
Home will use only one. Note that this does not apply to a single
Pentium 4 CPU with hyperthreading, as both Home and Pro will use the
full capabilities of this.

I think that you want to uninstall that nVidia driver that you
installed, as that seems to have made the situation worse.

Are you using a USB keyboard and/or mouse on this computer? If so you
might want to try switching to a regular ps/2 connection, at least for
the duration of the install.
