It is not supported by Microsoft, yet.

Linux or DOS will boot
Windows XP needs about 1.5 GB whether you have it on USB or IDE or whatever.
I saw a claim that if you pulled the IDE hard disk out of the USB enclosure,
put it in a a PC attached to the IDE bus and then installed windows, you
could put it back into the USB enclosure and boot from it. I can't verify
that. Might give it a try next weekend.
