Connection Wizard inflexible

I had a problem on the "wife's computer" from a worm/virus/trojan or
whatever that prohibited the printer from working. The on screen advice was
to install the XP disk. It took me a few days to find the disk. I backed
up all of the data files. This morning I installed the disk and it did a
reinstall. The printer now works fine. Everything seems to be a bit
sluggish, but all of the applications seem to be working ok.

HOWEVER, The internet/e mail connection doesn't work now. When I try to get
things sorted out I get error 711. I go to the wizard and select the
appropriate choices and on the page where you select dial-up, network, DSL
the choice is locked in to DSL.

How do I get around the wizard? Is this a symptom of other insults from
outside forces?

thanks
