I am trying to upgrade to XP Pro on Toshiba Tecra 8100. It came with Win 2K
which was smarter than I was. I changed to Win 98SE.
Tried to upgrade to XP Pro - gets to "Installing drivers" and locks up.
Used recover disk from Toshiba to reload Win 2K. Tried to upgrade to XP
Pro. Same results.
I had installed XP Pro but had trouble on restarting - acted like registry
was not quite right. After that, I used the recover disk from Toshiba which
(they say) completely erases the hard disk - winds up with a fresh as shipped
installation.
The freeze ups started after the "clean installation" step.
As further info, the internal modem gave me trouble. It did not work.
Showed at yellow ? in Device Manager. I fixed this by downloading a new
driver. It showed fine under XP in Device Manager. Functioned properly on
both call and receive. That driver was scrubbed with the clean install of
Win2K.
Any ideas of how to sort through this?
