SP2 upgrade extra directories

After updating WinXP on my laptop I have numerous extra
directories (eg. xf349gghiwseeeedg45) which contain a
subfolder referencing SP2 with a single file in each. Are
these "temp" folders and can I safely delete or move
these folders as they clutter up the root directory?

Thanks,
