You should not have to reinstall Windows just because of a CPU change.
However if the new P4 is the hyperthreading model then your Windows XP
may not pick this up. A properly installed Hyperthreading CPU will
show 2 CPU graphs in the Performance tab of Windows Task Manager.
If the two graphs are not present after you have replaced the CPU then
you will probably need to do a "Repair Install" of your Windows XP in
order to get the CPU recognized properly.
