For your edification, Windows XP and the programmes in Windows Directory or
Root directory of the hard disk are not designed to be run in DOS 4.9.
In order to 'Format' when booting off a floppy disk, one must have a copy of
FORMAT.EXE on the floppy disk which can be run from the DOS version of the
bootable floppy disk.
If you have a friend with Me or 98 make a bootable floppy drive on their
system and make sure that you copy the version of format.exe from their
system to the floppy drive if it isn't part of the file set.
If your objective is to format your drive and reinstall Windows XP, then
boot off the Windows XP install CD and do a clean install. Part of the
process will request if you wish to format the existing drive. You can
choose to Format at this time, prior to the installation taking place.
