I Know where your coming from possible solution is to
format your 2 hard drives to a fat 32 file system. after
you have done a hard format using dos under 98 on both
drives. I know it sounds like along way of doing things
with 2 formats but your 98 is operating under fat 32 and
may be causing a conflict with the NTFS file system this
why your not able finish xp installations.

>I just built my new system. From an ASUS p4B266 with 1.6
400FSB to an ASUS P4C8oo Deluxe with 2.4 533 FSB 1 Meg L2
Cache. I have 1 gig Crucial PC2100 ECC DDR. I have three
OS on the system on three different drives. Two XP Pro
and one 98

>My problem, the system will not recognize my two XP Pro
HD. I get the Blue Screen of Death and the STOP
0x0000007b message. Discovered that the XP partitions
must be repaired or reinstalled for XP to recognize the
new bios and hdwr. OK, but 98 boots up fine. So I try to
repair XP and once the Setup GUI comes up and starts
installing devices, the system shuts off.

>Well this has turned into a real nightmare. So I tiried
a fresh hard drive, formatted NTFS and fresh install of
XP Pro. I get through the Blue setup screens, it reboots
and I get the XP Pro splash screen, then the Setup gui.
Then the weirdness starts. It starts installing devices,
gets about 60% of the way through the device install (by
way of the progress bar in the lower left), and the
machine shuts off, just as if you reached over and hit
the off button. Tried it twice last night and once this
morning. I am at my wits end. No one I talk to has ever
experienced this. The MOBO is stripped bare, nothing but
ram, video card, and processor. Yet if I go to the 98
partition, all is well.

>I checked several thing on the Microsoft site like,
disbled the Legacy USB, No Luck. Tried F7 during setup to
bypass the ACPI, bu no luck. Disabled the ACPI in the
bios (supposed to counter false positives from MOBO that
CPU is overheating), no luck. I am running out of ideas
and options. This machine is my main DAW in my recording
studio. Downtime is lost money. This is not my first dog
and pony show, but by far my worst.

>Any other thoughts or ideas would as always be
appreciated.
