NTFS and FAT32 compatability on Windows XP

If I am running Windows XP with master hard drive
formatted with NTFS and a slave hard drive formatted with
FAT32, could this cause hardware problems on the hard
drives?

I have been told this type of configuration could result
in data loss or a hard drive 'crash'.
