Today, Wednesday October 14, the Epson technician left a telephone message.
I don't know if you would recommend this, but she suggested that I reformat
my hard drive, do another clean install of Windows XP, then install and
update the Epson programs, and then do Windows update. She did not respond
to a prior message that I emailed. Last week I remembered that I had a
generic driver, which I think comes with Windoes, the Apple Laser Writer,
which I installed to correct a Brother problem. I though maybe having this
driver at the time I bought the Stylus NX300 may have allowed the scanner and
the All-in-one to work together. Do you have any ideas about this?

Cari, yes, and furthermore, I had a technician on the telephone yesterday
who
telephoned me from Epson. She has the same setup at home that I have -
Windows XP, a scanner and an All-in-one all working together. That is the
setup I had since 2004 under XP - a scanner and another imaging device.
Originally, with the scanner, I had a stand-alone HP printer until 2006.
Then I had a Brother All-in-one until a few months ago. The Brother unit
caused software conflicts with both MS and Corel. With the lack of
customer
support, I decided to recycle the Brother unit. It wasn't until then that
Brother offered to help work-around the problem. However, I already had
the
Epson NX300 working and had no room for another All-in-one. So, up until
a
clean install of Windows about a month ago, without fully reinstalling all
the applications I had beforehand, I did not have a problem with the Epson
All-in-one, or any other brand of printer, working with the Perfection
1670
scanner.

I think you've got a Twain vs WIA problem. Do the scanners work if you
scan
into an application.... something like Adobe Acrobat or Photoshop? Even
Paint?
Is the WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) Service Enabled or Disabled in
Control Panel, Admin Tools, Services?

Cari
Incidentally, it is the scan function on both units that works. The
copy
function on the Perfection 1670 does not.

Thank you, but your response is strange because, prior to the clean
install
almost four weeks ago, I had both running. Epson scan gave me a
choice
of
which scanner to use for a particular job. I cannot believe your
message.

XP cannot support more than one single scanner. You appear to have
installed TWO.... one standalone and one with the All in One
printer.
Uninstall one of them.

At this time, I successfully installed IE7 and posted a follow-up
message
there. I then decided to try to uninstall and reinstall my 1670
Perfection
Scanner and NX300 All-in-one, both Epson. The scanner software
still
does
not recognize the printer. Both have the original drivers
installed
that
came with the units. Does anyone know of a solution?

In case, as I suspect, the Epson Smart Panel drive interferes

the

Panel,
Add/Remove
Programs does not permit it.

In favor of attempting an update to IE7, I decided to uninstall
the
drivers
to the Perfection 1670. Their driver support, New Soft, stated
that
they do
not have a driver which will recognize my printer, the Epson
NX300.

I run XP-Pro SP3on a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4002. Two weeks
ago I
had to do
a clean install to correct severe blue screen problems. Now
that I
have
reinstalled Windows, my Epson Perfection 1670 Photo Scanner
does
not
work
fully. The Smart Panel, on the Copy function, does not
recognize the
Twain
driver, despite the fact that I have installed both the
original
on
CD and
the current downloads. Epson Technical Support considers the
problem
New
Soft's. New Soft provided a driver belonging to another
model
to
install,
and the Copy function still did not work. Does anybody know
a
means
to
install this Twain driver for this scanner? Is there a file
in
Windows that
I have to clear?
