Can't open networked printer's preference page - Operation Could Not Be Completed

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Server 2008 with the print server role. We have Windows XP, Windows XP 64,and Windows Vista 64 printers installed on this server.

One printer, Xerox Phaser 8400 Postscript returns the following error when I try to get the printing preferences or printing defaults windows.

Printers: "Operation could not be completed"

Only on this particular printer and only on Windows XP/32. Vista and XP64 drivers are fine. and, this didn't occur on the 2003 print server that we moved from. All of our other printers (HP's) are fine.

I worked around the problem by installing the same 32-bit driver locally, and using a TCP/IP port to get to the printer.

The incredibly generic wording of the error message has not helped me track down any possible explanation.

Any ideas are appreciated.
