Re: How to send a fax from a scanned document?

On my Windows XP Pro computer, the Picture and Fax viewer has a printer icon
below the view window. If I click it, I launch the Photo Printing Wizard.
The first dialog from this wizard lets me pick what image I want to print.
Clicking "Next" brings me to the "Printing Options" dialog where I have a
drop down list labeled "What printer do you want to use?". In this drop
down list, I have an entry named "Fax". Do you have this entry in your drop
down list? If you do not, under "Start =>Printers and Faxes", do you have a
printer labeled "Fax"?

Hal Hostetler, My document shows on the Window Picture And Fax Viewer. It
has a print funtion below the printed doc. but doesn't show any printer to
use,not a FAX printer. If I print nothing happens,no FAX wizard

OK, you've got this document you want to fax. If you double click the
document, does some program start up and show you its contents? If this
happens, does this program have a "Print" function so you can print it
on a
printer? If the program has a print function, does it let you select
the
printer to use? If it will, do you see a printer named "Fax" in the
list?
If Fax is listed as a printer, what happens wen you select it and click
"Print", does the Send Fax Wizard start? If the Send Fax Wizard starts,
does it finish and tell you it sent your Fax? Please remember, we
cannot
read your mind and details are VERY important, be as candid as you can
with
your answers.

Lem, I Did the Configure Fax using the Fax wizard, enable send and
receive
are
checked, manual answer is on,the config summary is ok, one thing was
wrong-There were no tel numbers on theTSID & CSID but they are there
now.
I
did see two incoming phone calls listed on incoming. They were normal
calls,not to a fax. Hal

It seems as if you haven't gone through the Fax Configuration
Wizard.
Open the Fax Console and click on "Configure Fax." Go through the
"Fax
Configuration Wizard" and fill in the blanks as appropriate. On the
screen headed "Select Device for Sending or Receiving Faxes" make
sure
to check the boxes next to "Enable Send" and "Enable Receive." Set
either to manual answer or auto answer as desired.

The last screen says "You have successfully completed the Fax
Configuration Wizard" and shows a summary of settings. They should
look
something like this:

Configuration Summary:

Devices configured to send faxes:
Zoom V.92 PCI Voice Faxmodem
The TSID of these devices is XXX-XXX-XXXX.

Devices configured to receive faxes:
Zoom V.92 PCI Voice Faxmodem
Devices are configured to automatically answer incoming fax
calls after 2 rings.
The CSID of these devices is XXX-XXX-XXXX.

If yours looks like that, the problem may be that your modem is (a)
not
working properly or (b) not compatible with Windows XP Fax. If your
modem shows as "Modem Intel(R)537epv9xdf" that unfortunately is not
the
name of the modem manufacturer but the identification of the chipset
used in the modem, so I can't see if it's on the "Hardware
Compatibility
List." If you know the actual make and model of your modem, go to
http://winqual.microsoft.com/HCL/Default.aspx?m=x and check to see
if it
is OK for use with XP.

Open Device Manager (e.g., right click on My Computer, select
Properties, on Hardware tab, click "Device Manager"). Go to the
Modems
entry, click on the +, the right click on the modem identification
and
select properties. Does "Device status" indicate "This device is
working
properly"? Under "Device usage" does it say "Use this device
(enable)"?
Go to the "Diagnostics" tab. Click the "Query modem" button.
What
does it say for the response to "AT+FCLASS=?"

Click the "View log" button, and see if there appear to be any error
messages there. See the second post above from Gary Walker.

If you've been following the directions in MS KB 306663, did you
get
to
the end with no errors or other problems? And then you went to
the
Fax
Console and saw nothing either in Outbox or Sent Items?

Open the Fax Console.

Click on "Tools."

Click on "Fax Printer Configuration."

You should see a window with the title "Fax Properties" with 5
tabs:
General, Sharing, Devices, Tracking, and Archives.

On the General tab, you should see an icon of a fax machine and
the
name
"Fax." Most of the rest of this tab may be not filled in. What
does
it
say after "Model:"?

Click the "Devices" tab. What is listed under the heading
"Device Name Send Receive"? Is there a value for TSID,
CSID,
and "Rings before answer"? TSID and CSID should be your fax
telephone
number.
