Re: XP fax client doesn't connect to server

Was the client you installed XP Fax? If so, how did you install it and did
you receive any error messages along the way? Did you try typing the correct
path to the server fax instead of using Browse?

To install the client, or remote, fax printer I installed the fax service
first on the client. Then I went to "add a printer" and chose the network
printer option. I had it browse for printers and selected \\server1\fax.
When I then select properties for the new printer, I get this message:
"The
'Microsoft Shared Fax Driver' printer driver is not installed on this
computer. Some printer properties will not be accessible unless you
install
the printer driver. Do you want to install the driver now?" If I select
"yes" it goes to the driver wizard but this driver is not listed.

I have set up the fax service on our server (Microsoft Windows Server
2003
standard edition). Everything works just fine. I can send and receive
faxes
with no problems. I have also set up 3 clients with fax service. Two
of
them run XP SP2 and one runs XP SP1(this is out of service now because
of
age). The SP2 machines do not connect to the shared fax driver on the
server
even though the shortcut is pointed to it (\\server1\fax). I click on
"new
fax" and it clocks for about a half a second and then nothing. When I
try
to
do a diagnositic query with the modem in the device manager, the modem
does
not respond. On the SP1 machine I had no problems. Is there something
about
SP2 that is doing this? If not, does anyone have any suggestions how
I
can
fix this?
