It might be that the connection (phone companies) was less than it should
be.
This can be involved with the modem settings, since some of the settings
determine when the modem decides to disconnect, or what fax speed/mode to
use.

showed when she faxed in, connection was established. then it disconnected

I don't know why. Is this problem having something to do with the modem
settings?
