Re: Access denied message in Windows 2000 Printers and Faxes.

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Are the Win2k users truly blocked? If the Print Server gets access denied
to the spooler on the Win2k machine, the UI shows access denied on the
client (because the server can't update the data) but the user can print.
If they can print it's this issue. If they also can't print then it's an
authentication error. Do the machines authenticate to different DCs?

Hoping someone can correct me here since I'm just a printing guy but I think
the default authentication path on Win2k is NTLM and XP the default is
Kerberos. This might be the place to start if the user cannot print as well
as get the access denied in the UI.

A group of domain users using Windows 2000 Professional workstations all
have
access to three network print devices. The Print Server runs on Windows
2000
server.

The printers were added to the workstations using the 'Add Printer'
wizard.
The installation works fine and the users can print to the print devices.

At random times, sometimes a matter of hours, sometimes weeks, the users
say
that they are unable to print. On checking in Printers and Faxes, there
is a
red 'Access Denied' message visible.

Deleting the printer and re-adding it clears the error and the users are
able to print again, but only until the next time the error occurs.

Windows XP clients do not suffer from the same problem!

Does anyone know of a reason and/or a solution to this occurring. I have
trawled the knowledge base and can't find an article that deals with it
specifically although I have tried solutions for similar problems. Please
let me know if you need any additional information to assist in finding an
answer.

Thanks in advance for any contributions
