Hi guys, I have the same problem with an HP LJ III driver. No prints, no
printer page, non dir>lpt1. The cable is ok, the board is ok, the printer
too.

Works fine for me on XP. If you booted to DOS and do not get output, open
the computer case and see if there is a cable off the system board
connecting the parallel chipset to the actual 25 pin connector. The
parallel chip can still tell the OS it's there since it is.

I haven't used the 4L, but until it finally died, I had no problems with
a IIIp. There is a built-in driver for the HP LJ 4L. What problem are
you having? You may have to check the parallel port setting in the
BIOS. If it is set to EPP or ECP, try setting it to "SPP", "Standard"

The parallel cable must be connected directly to the computer, no

If you have a win95 or win98 boot floppy (and your current machine has a

Problem I am having is that that when I send a file to the printer it
shows
it being spooled, and then shows it being printed but it disappears into
LaLa
land and I get no output.
I have tried EPP,ECP,SPP and ECP-EPP all with same results. I also have
completely uninstalled the printer and removed LPT1 from the device
manager
and rebooted the system to ensure it no longer existed then I shut down
the
system and connected the parallel cable to the printer and powered up the
system and it finds the new hardware and proceeds to install the
necessary
drivers, etc. I had changed the port setting in the BIOS on each occasion
with same results.
The parallel cable is connected directly to the MB (ABIT BH6) No
pass-through connectors.
Cannot locate an updated driver from the HP site but am using the one
that
came with XP.
I booted up the system in DOS mode and tried the dir > lpt1 and nothing.
Have another system nearby running W98 and printer and cable work just
fine
on it.
It would be logical (My logic may be questionable) to me that if Plug &
Play
recognizes the new hardware then the Parallel Port, Cable and Printer
check
out and are not the problem and the problem points to either the drivers
and/or the BIOS settings.
