What make and model printer are you using, how are you attaching it to the
PC and are you logged on as Administrator?

I have the same problem and my Spooler has been started.
It was suggested to me that the driver is not good for XP but this also is
not true as I have successfully loaded this driver before.
This problem arose after I rebuilt my laptop from scratch. Recovery disks
were a Ghost with XP Home SP1. I had problem with some updates taking
until
SP" loaded. Now PC seems to be OK except for this printer problem.
