Fax works exactly like a regular phone call.. you have to be connected..
you
will need an analogue modem to make use of XP Fax, or use a Fax to e-mail
service like

The analogue modem is connected to the telephone wall jack just as it
would
if you had a dial up connection..

I've just learned that XP has fax capabilities. I'd like to use my home
phone
number to receive & send faxes. My isp is cable (& wireless.) Is it
possible
to send/receive faxes sent to/from my current home phone number using
my
cable modem? Do I have to plug my laptop into a wall jack/phone line?
If
the
laptop isn't connected to a phone line while someone is sending me a
fax,
will I be able to receive the fax later on when I plug the computer
into a
phone line again? Is there anyone out there from "planet xp fax" that
knows
what I'm talking about?
Thanks!! Joan
