Did you remember to share the printer itself?

I've set up both xp home computers to allow sharing. The desktop is
hardwired
to my router and the laptop is wirelessly connected.Everything seems to
have
been set up correctly but when I send a doc to print it just stays there
in
the print folder. My desktop recognises a printer as 'laptop' and a new
icon
for 'laptop' has appeared in the system tray. When I click on it the ink
levels aren't shown and the status monitor searches until it times out.I
would appreciate any assistance in resolving this problem, but please, not
too technical?
