Re: Error after Xp spools for print

I have the smae problem on a Toshiba laptop but with a Network printer on a
print server. all Office applications spool to print then freeze up and
windows gives me the blue screen and shuts down. i have tried reinstalling
the printer and drivers several times with no help. i have 4 other computers
printing off the same print server with no problems. I thought it may have
been a recent hotfix download, but uninstalled the recent downloads and it
also did not help. i thought it was a virus, but the scan came back clean.
any thoughts? thanks

I'm not sure how you can uninstall and reinstall the printer driver properly
without disconnecting the printer and reconnecting it.
Anyway, Assuming this is a USB printer--
With the computer off, disconnect the printer. Turn on the computer, and
uninstall the printer. Turn off the computer(Shutdown). Turn it back on, and
following the install directions, install the printer driver. (Usually, you
will install the drivers, and during the process be told to connect the
printer, etc.)

If things still don't work--
Computer power off (Shutdown)
Disconnect the printer
Computer power on
Uninstall the printer driver
Uninstall the USB port and controller drivers. (Make sure you have a copy
before you uninstall, since some computers require chipset specific drivers
supplied by the OEM.)
Shutdown the computer power off.

Power on
Reinstall the USB controller and port drivers.
Power off (Shutdown)
Power on
Reinstall the printer drivers per the instructions.

This usually works-Unless there is a real problem with either windows or the
hardware.
Laptops and some OEM computers come with diagnostics that may detect
hardware problems. USB testing may require a special loopback cable that
connects two USB ports together. Without some sort of cable or adapter, it
may be difficult to verify that the USB interface is completely working.

I don't even want to think about the possible software problems within
windows at this point.
One thing to try when all else fails is to log on as another user, and see
if this makes a difference.

Please help! I have a Toshiba Satellite M45 and it was working fine until
few
days ago. Nothing has been added or removed, except data files. When using
XP
Print Wizard, all is normal until the spooling has completed and then all
print icons/messages disapear and printing doesn't happen. Printer is
fine,
all other programs will print, tried other printer, same problem. Have
tried
restoring to dates previous to this problem, works for a bit, then same
problem and crashes PC at same time. Tried unistalling and reinstalling
this
printer driver but not the printer.
Need to print alot so speed of XP great advantage.
