See:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324757
for the SubSystem app problem.
The correct procedure for a USB printer is to install the software BEFORE
connecting the printer to the PC.

I am hopeful someone can help me with a printer problem. I am not
technical
so bear with me on the description and please be easy on the response.
I bought a new computer with Windows XP Professional Media Center on it.
Everything works fine except I can't get my printer to work. I have an HP
1012 Laserjet that worked perfectly with my old computer. When I try to
use
the plug and play feature or download the drivers I get error messages.
The
printer is connected directly to the computer on a USB cable.
The computer says it sees the HP Laserjet, but first I get a message "The
instruction at 0x00000000 reference memory at 0x00000000 could not be
written.", then it will attempt to load the drivers, get to the very end
and
then it will back up the process saying the installation cannot be
completed
as the "RPC server is unavailable". Sometimes I get "Spooler subsystem
App
has encountered a problem and needs to close" if I have the printer
plugged
in when I start the computer.
I have run several virus, spyware, and registry cleaners and no problems
found.
Thank you for your time and assistance.
