Re: LPT missing

Check Control Panel System Device Manager list for any Unknown device
entries or those with red X or yellow !.

Remove: any unknown device entries and those which might be listed as a
parallel printer port with either an red X or yellow !.

Shut the computer down. Turn the power off. Wait a minute or so; power on
again and enter BIOS setup. Check any entries for the parallel ports. Make
sure the mode is correct for the printer you are going to attach. Make
sure the port is _not_ disabled. Note: some notebook computers do not have
parallel ports.

If and changes made, save changes and exit BIOS setup. Let the computer
start.

The parallel ports should be detected and support installed. You might be
prompted to put the XP CD in the CD drive.

The PCI printer port card: check the installation manual that came with it
or might be on the maker's web site. Verify that the card can operate in
the mode needed for the printer or other device be it SPP, EPP, or ECP.
Check to see if jumpers have to be configured on the card or if it is
plug-and-play. Also, check to make sure the card will configure for
"Legacy" address and IRQ if you have older devices you want to attach
through the port.

Let us know.
