The DSL 'modem" is not involved in sending faxes. Faxes are sent
through an analog modem which is a separate device on your computer.
If your DSL line is piggybacked on a voice line, you have to place a
filter to block out high frequency noise between the telephone jack
and any voice or fax devices. If your DSL line is not shared with
the voice line, you will have to run a telephone line from your
computer to an active voice line. Fax or data modems only receive
or send through line one so if your voice line is on other than line
one you have to use an adapter to split out the other line into a
line one configuration. Line one uses the center pair of wires.
All other wire pairs simply pass through the modem and are not
connected internally to the computer.
Whether or not you are online with DSL has no relevance to using a
fax or voice device.
