is a picture folder. The thumbnails for all most all the pics are there
except a few. when I try to open/click on the icon, I get - can't
determine the type.
How could I repair these jpgs please? Is the hex-editor required, which
one and how to use that --or have I lost those pictures for ever? They
were all good long back.
Please guide?

Change the viewing of the directory to show the file details - and not
thumbnails.
Do these files (probably .jpgs) look the correct size. I would expect
it to be in the region of 300K if the pictures are old.
Repairing a jpeg is not easy. If you can find a file, you can e-mail
me a copy, and I will try and give you an idea of why it will not
open.

Thankyou for the two files you sent me
The first file started with a 4 byte header, as used in JPEG files,
but then was text.
The second file was not a jpeg in any shape or form.
Neither of these file can be converted back to jpegs, you will
probably need to try and recover the file from your hard drive by
means of data recovery. I will contact directly with possible ideas

I do not know as to how these files accrued the present position?
I do not have the original HD that contained the file. These are in my backup files in my External Hard Drive.
