Display png/gif icons as icons in Windows Explorer

Another one you may have an elegant answer for John:
Assembling a collection of icons in a folder where I can look at them all at
once, I note that icons with the .ico suffix are shown in Windows Explorer
as icons, but those that are .png or .gif are not. Is there a way to tell
WE to show these as icons too?
That would be another handy thing to be able to do.
