you can run sfc /scannow and
it will reset all your defaults...
you can read more about sfc at microsoft.com

I have read all the threads regarding the changing of the default and
crappy
'Windows Picture and Fax Viewer' and find them all to be UNWORKABLE.
THIS DEFAULT XP VIEWER CANNOT BE REMOVED BY THE USUAL 'CHOOSE PROGRAMS' OR
BY CHANGING 'FILE ASSOCIATIONS' ! I BELEIVE THAT THE FIX IS SOMEWHERE IN
THE
REGISTERY - BUT HAVENT BEEN ABLE TO FIND THE SOLUTION YET .
I AM SURPRISED THAT EVEN MVPs ARE SUGGESTING THE ABOVE ???
ANY ONE OUT THERE WITH A REGISTRY FIX? PLEASE ~?
