Re: Cannot view my .jpg files No Preview Available

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Thanks very much Yves for taking the time to reply to my post. I've tried as
you suggested to reboot in safe mode. Having done this and gone to "my
pictures" folder, none of my files were there. I then used the Run..Search
facility in safe mode and searched *.jpg. Interestingly the search did not
find any files. However running the same search in normal mode the files all
come up but cannot be opened. I then did a Safe Mode search by modified date
(including hidden files) using the last modified date of the jpg files that
are giving me the problem. This revealed a number of files with a .tmp
extension which may be my jpg files but again I could not open these. So no
further forward at this stage. Any other ideas would be gratefully received.

Certainly a possibility.
Try this, boot your computer in Safe mode and then try to open this files.
If this work, make a new folder and copy the files there. Do you know how to
boot in Safe mode? You simply boot and press F8 (or maybe another key
depending on your computer) as the booting process goes on, press it several
times dring the booting process. Now when Windows opens, you screen will
look quite different than normal, but this is not a problem, just navigate
to find these files.

The following has been suggested to me as a possible cause of my problem
but
did not offer a resolution. If this suggestion is valid can anyone advise
me
of what steps to take to free the files from the grip of Microsofts copy
wizard?

Quote....This sounds slightly familiar, A long time ago I was copying to a
CD and ran out of space and because the copy wizard didnt support rollover
to
a second CD it got itself into a state. Sadly I cant recall what I did to
overcome the problem, but it wasn't photos. It sounds as tho the copy
wizard
has marked the files as being in use and because the wizard was not able
to
complete it has kept the files under its control

The problem is that I cannot open and view my photo files. I get the
message
"No Previews Available". I've tried the "Open With" option but am still
unable to view the pictures. I notice that in each folder a new file has
been
created alongside the jpg files and called "Thumbs". The issue arose
after I
tried to copy my photo records to a cd but was not completed due to lack
of
disc space on the CD and the process was cancelled. I used the
application
within XP for the copy process. Photo's that I have since downloaded onto
my
PC are readily available to view it's only those that existed prior to
the
failed copy attempt that I have a problem with. I use NTL Broadband. I've
checked the files all have .jpg extensions.
